What is the relationship of radishes to the thyroid gland?
ANSWER:
Radishes contain raphanin (mainly sulfur),which is responsible for keeping the production of thyroid and calcitonin (a peptide hormone) in normal balance. With proper amounts of raphanin circulating in blood plasma, the thyroid won’t under or over produce these two hormones. This makes balancing the thyroid, treating thyroid diseases as well as Graves disease a small miracle of the tangy, little red radish. The sulfur amino acids in radish juice help break up fat deposits in the liver as an added bonus.
